Genevieve MANSFIELD

Freelance journalist based in Japan

 

In Japan, Genevieve has covered how businesses are responding to the country’s falling birth rates, as well as the country’s increasingly contested immigration politics.

 

Previously, she was the France reporter for The Local Europe. She has reported on snap parliamentary elections and pension protests, investigated the sudden rejection of foreign retirees applying for French nationality, and deciphered why the French are drinking less wine. She was also a co-host of the weekly Talking France podcast.

Genevieve holds a master’s degree in International Affairs and Journalism from Sciences Po in Paris. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received a BA in Government and Politics, with minors in French and International Development.

Genevieve is a native English speaker, and she is fluent in French. She’s currently learning Japanese.
